Koh Tse Hsien's undergraduate medical training was at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. He completed his specialist microbiology training at the Singapore General Hospital and the Royal London Hospital. In 2006, he did a research fellowship at the Toho University Medical School in Tokyo to study the characterization of beta-lactamases. In 2008 he did an attachment at Leiden University Medical Centre to study the molecular epidemiology of Acinetobacter spp. His research interests are in the molecular epidemiology of bacterial pathogens and resistance determinants of multidrug resistant bacteria. Tse Hsien is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists in the UK and Australia, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology. |
Dr. Tan Thean Yen
Senior Consultant Microbiologist, Changi General Hospital
Thean Yen obtained his primary medical degree at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Having survived the diet of endless Guinness, potatoes and Irish stew, he moved to the United Kingdom where he trained in Medical Microbiology in the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. In between mountain trekking, cycling on endless rainy days and chasing bewildered sheep, he (somehow) succeeded in obtaining his membership of the Royal College of Pathologists (Microbiology). At this point, he traded the grey rainy skies of Wales for hot tropical Singapore, which made the sheep very happy and Singaporeans very unhappy. His current position is as a Consultant Microbiologist in Changi General Hospital, Singapore, with an adjunct position in the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School (Duke-NUS). His professional interests are antimicrobial resistance and surveillance, antibiotic stewardship, the development of relevant clinical diagnostics, and teaching. His real interests include cooking, eating, sleeping and travelling. |

Dr. Jamie Tan
Clinical Microbiologist Jamie completed her undergraduate medical training at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore in 2006 following which she went on to do her housemanship at Singapore General Hospital. After spending a year and a half caring for new-born babies first then pregnant mums-to-be during her clinical rotations, she eventually developed an interest in caring (more) about microbes which led her to pursue specialist training in Microbiology. She is currently a Microbiology Registrar at Singapore General Hospital. |
Dr. Jeanette Teo
Scientific Officer, National University Hospital System After doing her post-doctoral stint at the Novartis Institute of Tropical Diseases investigating novel anti-tuberculosis agents, Jeanette decided to broaden her horizons. So she moved down the road to NUH and she is now happily looking at emerging and unusual antibiotic resistances in hospital pathogens and deciphering the usefulness of novel platforms for diagnostics. |
